Our Mission and Vision
We are a welcoming, healing community participating with God in caring for the world and all people.
We seek to grow as we follow God’s example of unconditional love and compassion.
- We worship to thank and praise God as we experience God’s grace.
- We live as Christ’s body, each of us individually gifted to share in God’s forgiving and reconciling work in the world.
- We encourage one another to love as Jesus loves us, by bringing hope to those who despair, comfort to those who fear, and healing to those who hurt.
Trinity Lutheran Church was founded in 1907, after the great San Francisco earthquake caused many people to move to Oakland. For many years, it was a primarily Norwegian church, offering worship in the Norwegian language. Today, the congregation is a diverse, energetic congregation that is warm and intimate.
Mutual care is evident throughout our life together, from announcements before worship to our prayer life to interactive sermons to genuine fellowship downstairs after the benediction. The pastor sends out weekly emails that detail the concerns and news of the congregation (we call our newsletter TLC!). And members and friends pitch in on a variety of efforts, from workdays at the church to cleaning up a family garden to providing transportation to church.
We are changing with each new person who walks in our doors.
